Biodiversity, FIBRE (1997-2002)

The Finnish Biodiversity Research Programme FIBRE was a six-year programme for applied interdisciplinary research on biological diversity. The aim of the Finnish Biodiversity Research Programme was to produce internationally competitive research results on biological diversity, with the applicability of the results as a central goal.

In Stage I (1997-99) FIBRE programme comprised 36 consortia / projects and in Stage II (2000-02) of 32 consortia / projects. There are altogether about 300 researchers working in FIBRE projects.

Funding
The Finnish Biodiversity Research Programme FIBRE (1997 - 2002)  was financed by nine funding bodies including the Academy of Finland, four ministries, National Technology Agency, Maj and Tor Nessling Foundation, Finnish Forest Industries Federation, and Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners.

The total funding for the six year programme is FIM 118.2 million, about 19.8 million EURO. Academy’s share of the funding amounted to FIM 55 million, about EUR 9,3 million.
