Nordic countries

The Academy of Finland works in active cooperation with the Nordic countries.

The Academy is closely involved in planning and implementing the work of NordForsk. The Academy’s Vice President responsible for research is a member of the NordForsk Board. Members of the Academy’s Research Councils and representatives of the Administration Office take part in the work of the Joint Committees of the Nordic Research Councils (NOS). NOS-HS (humanities and social sciences), NOS-N (natural sciences and engineering) and NOS-M (medical sciences) serve as cooperation and expert organs within their respective fields of expertise.

The Academy is one of the founding members of the Nordic Optical Telescope Scientific Association (NOTSA) and owns part of the NOT telescope in La Palma. Funding organisations from all Nordic countries are members of NOTSA.
