Science Europe

Established in 2011 and based in Brussels, Science Europe is an association of European research performing organisations and research funding organisations. Science Europe is the culmination of a two-year preparation process by the European Science Foundation (ESF) and EUROHORCs (European Heads of Research Councils, www.eurohorcs.org). Science Europe is an international non‐profit organisation incorporated under Belgian law. Its members are publicly funded research funding and research performing organisations with a significant impact on their national research systems within their areas of remit. The Academy of Finland joined Science Europe on 8 November 2011. Science Europe promotes the collective interests of its member organisations in their efforts to foster European research and strengthen the European Research Area.

Science Europe was founded at a meeting in Berlin on 21 October 2011, where the founding General Assembly elected the organisation’s first President, Vice Presidents and Governing Board for a two-year term.
