HERA

The ERA-NET Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) is a cooperation network that aims at finding new forms and practices of cooperation in the field of the humanities. The HERA network involves 13 European research and funding organisations as well as the European Science Foundation (ESF). HERA is coordinated by NWO Humanities, the Netherlands. HERA ran in 2005–2009.

In early 2009, HERA opened a pan-European call with two themes: “Cultural Dynamics: Inheritance and Identity” and “Humanities as a Source of Creativity and Innovation”. Funding was awarded to a total of 19 projects. Finnish research teams are involved in three of these projects. The total HERA budget was some EUR 16.5 million, of which some EUR 4 million came from the EU Commission through ERA-NET Plus funding.

Now, the HERA network continues with funding from its partners. The network is coordinated by IRCHSS, Ireland. The focus is on planning a new pan-European research programme and coordinating the previous programme.
