CIRCLE AND CIRCLE-2
The Academy participated in the ERA-NET project CIRCLE (Climate Impact Research Coordination within a Larger Europe). The project was coordinated by Umweltbundesamt, the Austrian Federal Environment Agency. CIRCLE included 16 partners from eleven countries and had a budget of EUR 2.8 million. CIRCLE ran between 2005 and 2009.
CIRCLE linked national research programmes and supported international efforts and actions in climate change impacts. In 2008, CIRCLE arranged two pilot calls (CIRCLE Nordic Call and CIRCLE Med Call). The Academy participated in the CIRCLE Nordic Call. The aim of the pilot calls was to find the best possible practices for a larger-scale or more extensive CIRCLE call. In 2009, CIRCLE arranged one more call (CIRCLE Mountain Call). The Academy did not participate in this call.
The Academy is also participating in CIRCLE-2 (Climate Impact Research and Response Coordination for a Larger Europe), which continues on the work carried out during CIRCLE. CIRCLE-2 is coordinated by Portugal (Foundation of the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon University) and includes 20 partners and 14 other participants from 23 countries. The budget is EUR 2.17 million, of which the EU's contribution is EUR 2 million. CIRCLE-2 was launched in 2012 and will run through 2014.
