Lots of letters of intent from CoE hopefuls
The Academy of Finland’s call for the new Centre of Excellence Programme (2014–2019), which closed on 25 April 2012, attracted a great number of letters of intent, 128 in total. The letters of intent covered a wide variety of research fields and were submitted by both universities and research institutes from across Finland. The total funding applied for amounts to some 409 million euros.
Next, over the summer, the letters of intent will be reviewed by international experts in the fields concerned. Over the course of the summer and later in autumn, a specific Programme Group will read through the letters and discuss the reviews together with members of the Academy’s Research Councils. After this, the Programme Group will draft a proposal on those candidates that will proceed to the second round of application. The Academy Board will decide on 6 November 2012 which candidates will make it to the second round.
