Research within the Male Reproductive Health programme is divided into four basic and clinical projects that all address the key challenges presented to andrology, or male reproductive health. These projects are concerned with the mechanisms of the pituitary and testicular hormones that are involved in reproductive functions as well as with the role of environmental and hereditary factors in disorders of the male genitalia (e.g. cryptorchism) and in the lowered semen quality recently seen in many countries. The projects also introduce new strategies for male contraception and explore the impacts of changes in hormonal function upon ageing men.
