Centre of Excellence Homepage

The Helsinki Brain Research Centre (HBRC) applies the latest methods of brain research to investigate the principles of cognitive brain function. HBRC serves as an umbrella for six research teams from two of the biggest universities and leading hospitals in the country. The purpose of the centre's research is to explore the foundations of learning, memory, attentiveness, emotions and language in the brain. The new information obtained on the function of the human brain and the work that is done at HBRC to develop new research methods at HBRC provide a firm foundation for clinical applications in such areas as the diagnosis and rehabilitation of learning and development disorders in children and adults. The mapping of brain function also facilitates the planning of surgical operations and the rehabilitation of stroke and tumour patients.
