The centre applies the methods of genetic research to study the history of populations. Genetic transformations and changes in the relative frequency of different types of gene and their links reflect evolutionary history. On the basis of these changes it is possible for instance to locate new disease genes, to trace the genetic background of multifactorial properties and to explore the evolution of these properties. One of the centre's key objects is to develop and apply the analytical tools required in processing the materials produced by genetic research. In addition to more theoretically oriented analyses the centre is especially interested in the evolution of plant reproduction systems and insects' social behaviour as well as in the location of genes.
