Get ahead in research

The Academy of Finland works to promote professional careers in research. The Academy has funding opportunities that provide support for the different stages of the research career. Academy research funding is fixed-term in nature.

In 2008, a four-tiered research career system was introduced by the Ministry of Education. The Academy of Finland’s funding schemes designed to promote research careers also support the principles of this system. Several universities in Finland apply a four-tiered system to support the career structures of their research staff. Since 2008, similar four-tiered research career systems have been introduced elsewhere in Europe as well. For more detailed information, see the links on the right.
