Ethical issues and applying for funding

The Academy takes ethical issues into consideration when making funding decisions. Ethical issues are also taken into account in the scientific evaluation of applications. If an expert reviewer detects any problems with regard to ethical issues, the applicant will be requested to submit an additional account in writing.

Ethical aspects shall always be described in the research plan. If a research permit or a statement by an ethics committee is required for the implementation of the project, applicants shall provide information on the permits or information on permit applications.

 Applicants shall:

  • select Yes or No in the Academy’s online services when asked whether the implementation of the project requires a statement by an ethics committee, by the Committee on Animal Experimentation or corresponding statement or permit
  • under item 4 of the research plan (Research methods and material), clarify the ethical issues involved in research
  • give details on the research permit or the valid statement by an ethics committee. If the statement or permit has not been acquired, applicants shall provide an account of when and from where it will be acquired.
  • append to their application a scanned version of a valid statement by an ethics committee or permit by the Committee on Animal Experimentation (recommendation by the Academy)
  • be prepared to provide a copy of the statement or permit upon request
  • commit themselves to following the Academy’s ethical guidelines for research, maintaining good scientific practice and conforming to applicable laws and regulations

The site of research shall:

  • undertake to oversee that the project follows the Academy’s research-ethical guidelines, good scientific practice as well as applicable laws and regulations
  • also undertake to monitor that the project follows the rules, regulations and recommendations regarding the processing of personal data and ethical issues, and to ensure that all necessary permits have been acquired
