Russia

The Academy of Finland engages in close cooperation with three Russian science and research funding organisations:

  • Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS (as of 1993)
  • Russian Foundation for Basic Research, RFBR (as of 2000)
  • Russian Foundation for the Humanities, RFH, (as of 2003)

The Academy of Finland launches thematic joint calls and arranges seminars with the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Foundation for the Humanities. The themes of the joint calls are selected separately each time. The RFBR and the RFH have actively participated in the Academy of Finland’s research programmes since 2003.

Cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences is intended to support the mobility of Finnish and Russian researchers. Annually a total of 200–300 research visits are made with the grants.

The Academy of Finland has invested in Russian studies by carrying out two extensive research programmes on Russia: the Russia and Eastern Europe Research Programme (1995–2000) and the Russia in Flux Research Programme (2004–2007).

The Academy of Finland is participating in ERA.Net RUS programme (2009–2012) funded under the EU Seventh Framework Programme for Research. ERA.Net RUS aims at strengthening and intensifying the S&T cooperation between Russia and the European Research Area (ERA). For more information on the programme, go to www.era.net-rus.eu.
