National researcher training courses

The graduate schools funded by the Ministry of Education have applied for funding from the Academy of Finland by 29 August 2008, see Call for graduate school applications 2010–2013. The Academy provides funding primarily for national researcher training courses related to graduate schools funded by the Ministry of Education and for the internationalisation of graduate schools. The aim is to make the funding decisions regarding graduate schools so that they cover the graduate school’s whole term for national researcher training courses and internationalisation.

Funding can also be applied by other than Ministry of Education graduate schools. Funding may also be granted for covering travel and fees of teachers coming outside the host university and, where necessary, for travel costs of doctoral students, both at home and abroad. For this purpose, researcher mobility grants based on bilateral agreements can also be applied for. Support may also be granted for coordination costs as well as national and international cooperation of graduate schools.

Of special reasons, funding can be provided for other several-day researcher training courses, provided that these are attended by doctoral students from several universities. Preference in Academy funding is given to courses that involve foreign students. International researcher courses proper should be funded primarily through international organisations (e.g. EU, ESF and NordForsk).

The applicant is the responsible director of a graduate school or national researcher training course.

Applications shall be drafted by using the application form available on the Academy’s online services. The following appendices shall be appended to the application:

  • annual report on the previous year (max. 2 pages)
  • action and study plan for the period funding is applied for, including internationalisation strategy and possible partner companies (however, a plan at least for one calendar year), and a plan for the course for which funding is applied for, of no more than four pages
  • curriculum vitae for the applicant (max. 4 pages)
  • list of publications of the applicant, the length of which is not limited. The applicant is requested to indicate the ten most important publications.
  • curricula vitae for the lecturers
  • lists of publications of the lecturers
  • progress report on Academy-funded research projects for which no final report has been submitted
 Applications are invited in October.
