Contractual joint research projects
Research groups can apply for funds for joint research projects with researchers from countries with whose research funding organisation the Academy has entered a bilateral agreement where this form of cooperation is stated.
The international joint calls may vary between different calls. Information on active calls for joint projects is available from the calls for applications.
Joint research projects shall include research groups from both Finland and the partner country. The parties of the joint project shall submit their applications to their respective research funding organisation, complete with a joint research plan, a joint budget and the curricula vitae of the responsible leaders of the projects. The research plan shall include a clear description of the planned research cooperation (division of labour and methods) and the added value generated from this cooperation. The English-language research plan should be no more than ten pages in length.
The funding for joint research projects is intended for:
- research cooperation
- organising scientific meetings
- promoting researchers' mobility
- researchers' salary costs, as regards the Academy of Finland funding
Applications are reviewed both by the Academy and the partner organisation, in accordance with their own principles, which, in the case of the Academy, involves an international peer-review.
The evaluation criteria are:
- scientific quality and innovativeness of the research plan
- added value generated by research cooperation
- feasibility of the research plan
- scientific merits of the researchers/research groups
- promotion of young researchers' careers
