Email confirmation does not show the CV

After applicants have submitted their application, they will receive an email confirmation listing the appendices to the application.

Unfortunately, this email confirmation does not automatically show the CV, even if it has been submitted as an obligatory appendix to the application.
Applicants can view their submitted applications as a PDF version in the Academy’s online services. The PDF version lists all submitted appendices, including the CV. Contrary to the other appendices, the date is not available for the CV.

The applicants will be contacted after the deadline has expired in case they need to re-attach the CV to their application.

The Academy is upgrading its online services – make sure you submit  your application in time

A record number of applications is expected to the October call.
Changes are also underway to improve the Academy’s online services.

Online services are often slow or congested on the last day of the
call, so be sure to submit your application well in time. It is also
harder to get through the our helpdesk services.

The Academy’s new online services will be launched in September and
the call will be opened on 4 October 2010.

It is advisable to register with the funding service as soon as
possible after the call has been opened: this will help to expedite
the application process. Users who have previously accessed our online
services must register separately with the service because of
of changes in required personal data and new identification procedures. At the
same time it is a good idea to take the opportunity to read the
application guidelines and study the application form and required
appendices. The application can be saved at any time and resumed at a
later date.

Reform of funding instruments in autumn 2010

(26.11.2009)

The Academy’s funding instruments will be restructured in autumn 2010. The purpose of the reform is to give the various funding instruments greater clarity and flexibility, and to improve the effectiveness and impact of the Academy’s research funding. The reform also includes overhaul of the Academy’s online services and changes to call times.

Some of the funding instruments that are now part of the January call will be moved to the autumn. This is the case with funding opportunities such as the general research grants (henceforth Academy projects) and the Postdoctoral Researcher’s projects. As a consequence and as an exception to normal procedures, there will be two calls in these particular funding instruments within the same year in 2010. If an application with essentially the same content has already been evaluated in connection with the January call, then the same scientific review may be used for a funding decision made about a corresponding application that is submitted in the autumn.

More information on this reform will be available in spring 2010.

More information: Senior Science Adviser Tiina Petänen, tel. +358 9 7748 8263, and Senior Adviser Sirpa Nuotio, tel. +358 9 7748 8262.

The new Act on the Academy of Finland will enter into force on 1 January 2010

(25.11.2009)

Researchers who hold public service employment relationships with the Academy of Finland will transfer as of 1 January 2010 to a corresponding employment relationship for the same fixed term with their site of research. The reason for this is the new Act on the Academy of Finland, which enters into force as of the beginning of 2010. The Academy’s research posts will then be discontinued, ending the public service employment relationships for the posts in question. The Academy of Finland will, however, continue to provide the funding for the work of Academy Research Fellows and Academy Professors, and the application and selection processes involved remain unchanged.

Academy Professors and Academy Research Fellows will not be required to submit any application to the Academy of Finland or to their site of research as a consequence of the new legislation. The Academy will grant funding that corresponds to the research post salaries to the sites of research without separate request. However, those who hold research posts will themselves be responsible for giving their tax cards and bank account numbers to their new employers. More specific instructions for those holding research posts are enclosed as an appendix with this press release.

Changed system for requesting a commitment by the site of research in the October 2009 call

(3.12.2009)

The applicant is required to agree in advance with a representative of the site of research that the site of research will commit to funding and administering the project in the manner explained in the funding plan.

Requests for commitments by sites of research will be sent in December 2009. This delay in the announced schedule has been caused by delivery and testing of systems for the online services.

The delay has not affected the processing of applications submitted in the October 2009 call, which is proceeding as planned.
