Changes in funding decisions
Changes in the Academy’s funding decisions require the Academy’s permission. The principal investigator shall submit the appeal in the Academy’s online services under My applications > Decisions > Appeals. Appeals that concern funding can be made only while the funding period is ongoing. However, they shall be filed at least two months before the end of the funding period.
The most common changes in funding decisions include:
- Change in research plan
No permission from the Academy is needed for minor changes in the research plan. Major changes, however, do require permission.
- Extension of funding period, application for additional funding
The funding period may be extended only on the basis of an appeal and for specific reasons, such as maternity, parental or childcare leave of a researcher working on the project with Academy funding, or military service, non-military service or a chronic disease, provided that no substitute for the researcher has been hired and he/she will return to work on the project. An appeal shall be submitted to the Academy well before the end of the funding period. A leave of absence decision, a medical certificate and other related certificates shall be appended to the appeal.
If the full cost model is not applied to the cost calculation of a project, the project may also be granted additional funding on the basis of maternity leave or a chronic disease of a researcher. An account of the additional salary costs by the finance administration of the site of research shall be appended to the appeal.
The funding period cannot be extended on the grounds that the money has not been used.
- Change of principal investigator
The principal investigator of a project may, in exceptional cases and on well-justified grounds, be changed in the middle of the funding period. A justification for the change, signed by both the previous and the new principal investigator, shall be appended to the appeal.
- Change of site of research
The Academy’s permission is needed if the site of research changes. The appeal is submitted by the principal investigator. The consent by the original site of research and the commitment by the new site of research shall be appended to the appeal, together with an account by the finance administration of the use of funds at the time of the change.
The change of the site of research cannot be made in the middle of the payment period, that is, the change is only possible starting from May, September and January, on the condition that the last payment request by the original site of research concerning the funding decision has been submitted to the Academy and it has been paid.
