Steering group

The steering group of the review was chaired by Professor Heikki Mannila, President of the Academy of Finland. Professor Arto Mustajoki, Chair of the Academy Board, acted as Vice Chair. The members included the Academy’s Vice President for Research, the Chairs of the Research Councils and representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, Universities Finland UNIFI and research institutes.

Working group

A team of experts from the Academy of Finland’s different units was formed into a working group for the review. The report itself was edited by two representatives of the Management Support Unit: Director of Strategy Leena Treuthardt and Senior Science Adviser Anu Nuutinen. Part 3 of the report was written by Professor Timo Aarrevaara and researchers Arto Aniluoto, Paula Ranne and Reetta Ruotsalainen from the Network for Higher Education and Innovation Research (HEINE) at the University of Helsinki.

Discipline-specific task forces

In autumn 2011, the Academy of Finland organised 42 discipline-specific evaluation workshops that were attended by a total of 366 researchers from universities and research institutes across Finland. Their considerable and valuable input enabled an extensive and detailed assessment of the state of different disciplines.
