Centres of Excellence programmes

The Academy provides funding for Centres of Excellence (CoE) in research. The first CoE programme, as it is known in its present form, was launched in 2000. Work at these CoEs is supported, promoted and monitored by Scientific Advisory Boards, which consist of leading foreign experts and observers depending on the field in question, a member of the Academy’s relevant Research Council as well as representatives of the funding bodies and the host organisation of the CoE.

The final evaluation of the 2000–2005 and 2002–2007 CoE programmes will be conducted on completion of the latter programme. The aim will be to establish the scientific and societal impact of these programmes.
