Foresighting at the Academy of Finland

The Academy of Finland is committed to promoting the development of science and to increasing the impacts of science and research by forecasting changes in individual disciplines and in the research system as a whole, as well as by allocating funding to the most innovative, cutting-edge research.

The main use of the information gleaned from foresight is for purposes of raising the quality and strengthening the impact of research funding. Furthermore, as one of the key agents in the national research system, the Academy is closely involved in developing foresighting at the level of the research and innovation system. International cooperation primarily with European organisations is a major aspect of this. The Academy is stepping up the use of foresight information in the preparation of research programmes and other major projects.
