The state of scientific research in Finland 2012

The 2012 report on the review of the state of scientific research in Finland was published by the Academy of Finland on 8 October 2012. The report reviews the state and position of the Finnish research system in international comparison as well as the strengths of different scientific disciplines and areas in need of further development. The report also provides a thematic overview of the extent to which Academy-funded projects have dealt with themes associated with the grand challenges facing humankind and society. The discipline-specific review covers a total of 47 research fields. The state of these fields is presented on this website.

The Academy of Finland has reviewed the state and quality of scientific research in Finland at three-year intervals since 1997. The reviews enable the long-term monitoring of the state of different scientific disciplines and provide a solid foundation for policy-making in science policy.
