International activities

The focus of the international cooperation of the Research Council for Natural Sciences and Engineering is on Nordic and European countries, but it also has close contacts with top research teams in the US and other non-European countries.

The research fields hosted by the Research Council are highly international. A large number of the projects funded by the Research Council support international cooperation by employing foreign researchers, or researchers of Finnish research teams to work for a fixed period at laboratories or institutes of their partners abroad. The Research Council provides funding for researcher training abroad, as well as for international scientific courses, meetings and conferences. Researchers within the fields of natural sciences and engineering also take good advantage of the opportunities for researcher mobility provided by the Academy of Finland.

The Research Council is responsible for the national coordination of several international science organisations and contributes to their operation by funding research projects and travels necessary for communication.
