Research Council for Biosciences and Environment

The scope of the Research Council for Biosciences and Environment covers the key fields in terms of the well-being and future of society: natural resources and the environment as well as biosciences. The Council decides on research funding within its own field of expertise. The research funded by the Council is in essence often interdisciplinary. It may be motivated by needs arising from science itself or from society.

The goal of the Research Council is to guarantee the development of high-level, versatile and innovative research and researcher training environments by providing long-term funding. The Research Council supports researchers and research teams who are known as being merited in training researchers, with the aim of establishing high-level research teams involving researchers at different stages of their research career. Academy Professors and Centres of Excellence in research form the core of the best research and training environments. The postdoctoral researcher stage is important to researchers in order to become independent and establish their own career. The Council supports particularly those newly graduated postdoctoral researchers who change their research environment after completing their degree, as well as encourages their international mobility.
