The goal of the Finland Distinguished Professor (FiDiPro) funding programme is to strengthen scientific knowledge and know-how in Finland, add a more international element to the Finnish research system, generate added value into the national innovation system and support research-driven profiling of universities and research institutes. Within the framework of the programme, universities and research institutes can hire foreign professor-level researchers or Finnish professor-level researchers who have long worked abroad to conduct research in Finland for a fixed period.
The programme is aimed at creating long-term international cooperation. The researcher to be hired can work annually a maximum of half of the funding period abroad, however, so that he/she works in Finland a minimum of two years in total. Funding is granted for purposes of hiring researchers who will primarily be based in scientifically significant and strategically key fields defined by universities and research institutes and who are expected to strengthen internationally competitive research and innovation in Finland.
The bodies responsible for the FiDiPro funding programme are the Academy of Finland and Tekes.
