Board

The highest decision-making body of the Academy of Finland is its Board, whose eight members are responsible for the Academy’s science policy line and the allocation of research appropriations to Research Councils. In addition, the Board decides on the appointment of Academy Professors, the selection of research teams into the Centre of Excellence programmes and the start-up of new research programmes.

The Academy’s Board and Research Councils are appointed by the Government for a three-year term. The Government seeks to ensure that the Board and Research Councils have a wide range and high level of scientific expertise.

The Board may transfer a matter pertaining to the scope of activity of two or more Research Councils to be processed and decided by a sub-committee appointed by the Board.
