Tapio Salmi is working to develop wood-based liquid biofuels to replace oil-based fuels. Based on modelling the chemical reactions that occur in these processes and aimed at improving their efficiency, this line of process technology research is extremely challenging and innovative. It ties in closely with one of the major research themes of the newly founded Strategic Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation in the fields of energy and the environment. Salmi has access to the latest research equipment and to the best scientific expertise, and is therefore well placed to make significant breakthroughs in this important field of study. Salmi is in charge of a research team called ‘Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Reaction Engineering’.
