Maarit Karppinen

1 Jan 2009–31 Dec 2013

Maarit Karppinen’s research interests lie in new functional oxide materials. Her aim is to understand the properties of synthesized materials, for the purposes of which she applies a wide range of highly sophisticated experimental and theoretical methods. Functional oxides have several interesting potential applications, and overall this is an extremely important and promising area of research. Japan is currently the world leader in this field, and Karppinen has close links of collaboration with Japanese colleagues based at the world’s leading research unit. This collaboration could pave the way to creating a new cutting-edge research unit in Finland. Karppinen has access to state-of-the-art research equipment and to the best know-how in the field, and she is therefore well-placed to achieve significant scientific breakthroughs.
