University of Oulu
Electronics
Juha Kostamovaara is Professor of at the University of Oulu and his research field is electronics. He is a well-renowned expert in his field, both nationally and internationally. Kostamovaara’s highly topical research project offers potential for rapid advances in Finnish electronics. During the past five years, he has been able to adopt totally new approaches and generate new potential in the field. The results produced during his first term as Academy Professor (2006–2011) already proved that the novel semiconductor structures can achieve clearly better performance compared to the previous ones. The research proposed/presented by Kostamovaara for his new project is expected to generate significant new knowledge in electronics as well as novel solutions to practical applications.
In his project, Kostamovaara will develop circuits and devices for accurate multi-channel time interval measurements and for the generation of high-speed optical and electrical transients. The circuits and devices to be developed in the project will be applied to pulsed time-of-flight laser ranging and Raman spectroscopy, but the outcomes are expected to facilitate a number of other new applications as well.
