What we do

The Academy allocates research funding to leading-edge scientific research, promotes scientific research and research environments and the application of research results, supports international scientific cooperation and acts as an expert in science policy. At home, our key partners are the Finnish universities; globally, research funding agencies in the EU and in a number of countries around the world.

We provide support for all stages of the research career. We encourage researchers to be mobile in the Finnish research system, in business and industry, and in public administration as well as on the international arena.

We actively participate in debate on science policy, research ethics and the objectives and impact of science and research. We work to promote good scientific practices and strengthen the ethical sustainability of the research we fund. We also regularly evaluate our own operations and their impact.

Our key goals and means are defined in our strategies. Our operations are also influenced by the strategies of the Research and Innovation Council of Finland.
