European Science Foundation (ESF) and
European Medical Research Councils (EMRC)

The Academy’s Research Council for Health is a member of the European Medical Research Councils (EMRC) under the European Science Foundation (ESF). The mission of EMRC is to identify the development of basic research, to develop research policy lines, to initiate new research directions, to promote research preconditions and to offer strategic advice for science policy making.  The ESF’s activity principles are multidisciplinarity, pan-European, high scientific quality, administrative and operational flexibility and independence.

EMRC is committed to promoting interdisciplinarity among scientists of biomedicine and clinical medicine with a view to developing a European science strategy and establishing cooperation. The goal is to be in the forefront of science in identifying new research orientations.  Research activities include scientific research programmes, strategic and exploratory workshops, networks and European Research Conferences (EUROSCO).
 
Professor Tuula Tamminen, Chair of the Research Council for Health is member of the EMRC Standing Committee. Science Adviser Sara Illman serves as contact person at the Academy.
