The number of applications increased in the Academy’s October call

In the October 2009 call, more applications were submitted for Academy of Finland funding than the year before. In the October 2008 call, the Academy received 1,227 applications while in 2009 the number of applications received was 1,360, an increase of 11 per cent on the previous year.
Academy Research Fellowships and Academy Professorships attracted great interest in the October call. A total of 149 applicants expressed their interest in the post of an Academy Professor. There will be at least eight vacant posts.
Academy Research Fellowships attracted a total of 542 applications, most of which were addressed to the Research Council for Natural Sciences and Engineering (181), followed by the Research Council for Culture and Society (147), the Research Council for Biosciences and Environment (118), and the Research Council for Health (96). There will be at least 58 vacant posts.
A total of 231 researchers applied for funding for Senior Scientist; the majority of them (81) were in the fields of culture and society research. Researcher training and research abroad attracted 258 applicants. Most applications came from the fields of culture and society research.
The deadline for the October call was 30 October 2009, but applicants were allowed to supplement their applications submitted within the deadline until 6 November 2009 at 16.15. Applications received after the deadline can only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
