Reforms of Finnish universities progressing at full speed

“The Finnish economy may be in a rut, but our knowledge and knowhow will take us through this downturn,” says Professor Kalervo Väänänen, chair of Universities Finland (UNIFI) and rector of the University of Turku. Faced with economic austerity and global challenges, Finnish society as well as business and industry will have to reinvent themselves. University-based research and education play a decisive role in facilitating renewed growth, but the austere conditions will require regenerative capacity from the universities, too.
